Magic incoming! D23 wrap-up

Every second year, Disney holds the ultimate fan event, D23, where they announce new and exciting updates to the parks or cruise line, along with upcoming projects for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Start Wars and more! This year’s event was held over the weekend, 9-1 September, and boy was it eventful! From new movies and games to new cruise ships, the weekend was packed full of amazing announcements for all Disney properties.

There were so many announcements over the three days it’s impossible to get them all. Below is a bit of a wrap up on the major announcements! Who’s keen to be there in person next time – I know I am!


2023 marks the 100-year anniversary of the Walt Disney Company. Branding throughout 2023 will be updated to the new Disney100 logo. There will also be exclusive merch and experiences, including a Disney100 exhibition from the Walt Disney Archives. More information will be announced over the year.

Walt Disney Studios

  • Hocus Pocus 2 – a new trailer was debuted ahead of the Disney+ Original Movie’s release on Friday 30 September 2022.

  • Disenchanted – a new trailer was released and Patrick Dempsey and Idina Menzel were inducted as Disney Legends. Disenchanted debuts on Disney+ on Friday 24 November 2022.

  • Peter Pan & Wendy – A new reimagining of the classic Peter Pan tale was announced, due to be released in 2023. The film will star Alexander Molony as Peter, Ever Anderson as Wendy, Alyssa Wapanâtahk as Tiger Lily and Jude Law as Captain Hook!

  • Haunted Mansion – A new and exciting take on the classic Disney ride was announced to be released in 2023, starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota!

  • MUFASA: The Lion King – A new film about the king of kings, Mufasa was announced, due to be released in 2024.

  • Snow White – A live-action reimagining of the classic tale was announced, slated for release in 2024. The film will star Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as The Queen.

  • The Little Mermaid – An official teaser trailer was released. The previously announced film, starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, is in post-production and due to be released in May 2023.

Disney Animation Studios

New Disney+ shows announced:

  • Zootopia+ – this short-form series will be released 9 November 2022

  • Iwájú – this all-new long-form original series will be released in 2023

New feature films announced:

  • Strange World – will be released in cinemas 23 November 2022

  • Wish – set to be released Spring 2023 during Walt Disney Studio’s 100th year

Disney Parks


  • Mando and Grogu will be appearing at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, starting in mid-November 2022

  • Avengers Campus will be expanded to include a third attraction, including the Incredible Hulk and a Multiverse variant of Thanos!

  • Pacific Wharf will be reimagined as San Fransokyo from Big Hero 6. You can even meet Baymax!

  • Toon Town is being reimagined to celebrate Mickey, Minnie, and Pals in new way.

  • Paradise Pier Hotel is being reimagined as Pixar Place Hotel

  • New and reimagined locations to be opened in the Downtown Disney District

  • runDisney races will be back at Disneyland Resort in 2024 (for the first time since 2017!)

Walt Disney World:

  • EPCOT’s multi-year transformation is nearing its completion with the World Celebration neighbourhood to be completed in late 2023. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana will also open late 2023 and Figment will be appearing live in the park by the end of 2023.

  • TRON / Lightcycle Run is due to open in Autumn 2023

  • “Happily Ever After” will return as the soundtrack for the nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom in 2023

  • The Hatbox Ghost will return to the Haunted Mansion in 2023

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

New concept art was released for the beautiful, reimagined attractions at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Park. The rides are due to open late 2024 and will feature the voices of the animated feature film’s stars: Disney Legend Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Bruno Campos as Naveen, Michael-Leon Wooley as Louis, and Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie.

Hong Kong Disneyland

World of Frozen will open in the second half of 2023. It will blend Arendelle with the park’s natural landscapes on Lantau Island.

Disneyland Paris

  • Walt Disney Studios Park will expand with their own Frozen-themed land with a gorgeous lakeside promenade and will immerse guests in the same magical wintry setting from the films.

  • A new Tangled-themed family attraction will open in the gardens leading into the land

  • Disneyland Hotel will reopen in 2024 with a Frozen theme

  • A new stage show, “Pixar: We Belong Together´will debut in 2023 in Walt Disney Studios Park as part of the finale of the 30th anniversary celebrations

Tokyo Disney Resort

  • Tokyo DisneySea is getting an expansion to include new stories including Frozen, Peter Pan, and Tangled. There will also be a brand-new hotel integrated into the park as part of the expansion

  • Space Mountain will be reimagined and will be reopened in 2027.

Shanghai Disney Resort

For the first time, Zootopia will make an appearance at a park with Zootopia Central Station and Zootopia Police Department!

Disney Cruise Lines

Disney Treasure

The sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Lines fleet will set sail in 2024. She will be themed around adventure and exploration, and the stories and magic of Agrabah. The Great Hall statue will feature Aladdin, Jasmin and the Magic Carpet.

Disney Magic at Sea

For the first time, the Disney Wonder will be making her way Down Under for a limited season from October 2023 to February 2024. If you want to register for more information - you can do so here.

Lighthouse Point

Progress is continuing on Lighthouse Point, a beautiful new island destination in the Bahamas. The destination will showcase the natural beauty of the Bahamas and will by powered 90% through solar energy.


New films were announced:

  • Elemental – due for release 16 June 2023

  • Win or Lose – will be released on Disney+ in Spring 2023

  • Elio – due for release in Autumn 2024

  • Inside Out 2 – the sequel to the highly acclaimed film is slated for release in Winter 2024


  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – the sequel to Black Panther will be released in cinemas 11 November 2022

  • Ironheart – this new series will be released on Disney+ in 2023 and will take place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – the kick off to Phase 5 will be released in cinemas 17 February 2023 and will connect to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

  • Werewolf by Night – a new Halloween special event presentation will begin streaming on Disney+ form 7 October 2022. A trailer was also released.

  • Secret Invasion – the official trailer for this new event series was released.

  • Armor Wars – this new Disney+ project will star Don Cheadle as James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes.

  • Loki – Season 2 was announced to begin streaming on Disney+ in 2023

  • Fantastic Four – this new film was announced and will be released November 2024.

  • Echo – Disney+ series

  • Daredevil: Born Again – 18-episode Disney+ series

  • Captain America: New World Order – New film will be released in cinemas 2024

  • Thunderbolts­ – will be released in cinemas July 2024

  • The Marvels – opens in cinemas 28 July 2023


  • Andor – the final trailer was released ahead of the show’s release on 21 September 2022!

  • Willow – A new trailer was released for the show premiering on Disney+ on 30 November 2022.

  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch – A 16-episode second season was announced, due to begin streaming on Disney+ from 4 January 2023

  • Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – this new series of shorts was announced and a trailer was released. The show is due to debut 26 October 2022.

  • Ahsoka – the new live-action series, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, is slated for release on Disney+ in 2023.

  • Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – A new series coming soon to Disney+. There is currently no release date, but the series will star Jude Law.

  • The Mandalorian – the Season 3 teaser trailer was released. The new season is set to launch on Disney+ in 2023.

  • Indiana Jones 5 – the latest installment in the Indiana Jones franchise is slated to be released in cinemas 30 June 2023 and will star Harrison Ford as Indy and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

20th Century Studios

Avatar: The Way of Water – the film is in post-production and due to be released 2023


The Muppets Mayhem – this new comedy series is due to be released in 2023

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Season 4 was announced

American Born Chinese­ – a new Disney+ Original series starring Michelle Yeoh was announced along with a first look.

Percy Jackson and the Olympiansteaser trailer was released for this live-action series.

The Santa Clauses – the new series will launch on 16 November 2022. Plus the first teaser trailer was released!

National Treasure: Edge of History – the first full trailer was released ahead of the series release on 14 December 2022

Descendants 4 – the fourth installment in the Descendants franchise was announced!
